This Marttiini outdoor knife is made to suit a great variety of uses and users - also very young outdoor
enthusiasts. The handle is curly birch. The blade is Carbinox, combining the best properties of carbon
and chromium steel and is the company’s answer to the outdoor challenges of this millenium. It is easy to
sharpen a Carbinox blade to the razor sharpness required by precision work, and due to the high
chromium content of the material, drying the blade after use is the only maintenance required. The blade
on this knife is made from a special stainless chrome steel. The tempering at just the right temperature -
determined from Janne Marttiini’s developing work - ensures the durable and strong blade.
The composition of the materials (containing 13% chrome) tempered to 54-56 on the Rockwell hardness
scale (HRC) is the best combination for a knife blade. The 13% chrome assures the steel to be durable,
absolutely stainless and saltwater and acid resistant. The edge of each individual blade is finished by
hand polishing with grinding wax and polishing wheel.

Silver Stag Damascus blades are created by forge welding multiple layers of steels, some that contain
nickel, into a solid block called a billet, (Silver Stag contains 1094 & 15N20 high carbon tool steels). The
billet is folded and rewelded several times to produce layers (Silver Stag Damascus = 100 to 150 layers).
Patterns are created by manipulating the steel during the forge welding process. When the billet is
finished, blades are formed out of the layered steel billet block. When acid is added to the blade, it
attacks the layers of hard and soft steels differently, highlighting the attractive layered pattern in the
blade. The combination of layered hard and soft steel creates blade flexibilty, toughness and produces
invisible serrations on the blade that aid cutting.
